The car’s story
The 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer has only bullet-resistant armour on its sides, front, rear, roof and floor. It was adopted by the Soviet Army under a decree of the CPSU Central Committee and the USSR Council of Ministers dated 14 September 1970. Series production of the 2S1 Gvozdika began at the Kharkiv Tractor Plant in 1971.
The 2S1 Gvozdika was fitted with a YaMZ-238N four-stroke V8 engine. This liquid-cooled diesel displaced 14,860 cc and produced 300 hp (220.8 kW) at 2,100 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 15.7 tonnes. Maximum speed: 61.5 km/h on land and 4.5 km/h afloat. Range on land: 450 km.
Main armament: a 122 mm D-32 (2A31) howitzer. Ammunition: 40 rounds of separate-loading ammunition.
