The car’s story
The Auto Avio 815 was built in 1940 by the brilliant Enzo Ferrari after he left Alfa Romeo. It was not designed from scratch: the brakes, transmission, steering and front suspension came from the Fiat 508C, an ideal basis for an endurance racing car. The engine also came from the 508C, but the designers used two of them. Two 1.1-litre units were combined using a new block and cylinder heads, producing an eight-cylinder engine with 72 hp. Weighing 625 kg, the roadster could reach 170 km/h.
The body of the Auto Avio Costruzioni 815 was entrusted to Felice Anderloni, head of Carrozzeria Touring.
