The car’s story
In 1936 the Izhora Plant developed the BA-20 light armoured car on the GAZ M-1 passenger-car chassis. Series production lasted until 1942. From 1936 to 22 June 1941, the Vyksa Plant built 1,574 BA-20s, including BA-20Ms. Another 302 were assembled in the second half of 1941, and only 137 in 1942.
Armour: front 9 mm, sides and rear 6 mm, roof and floor 4 mm, turret 9 mm. Its liquid-cooled, carburetted M-1 inline four displaced 3,280 cc and produced 50 hp at 2,800 rpm.
Crew: 3; combat weight: 2.52 tonnes; maximum speed: 90 km/h; range: 450 km. Armament: a 7.62 mm DT machine gun of the 1929 model. Ammunition: 1,386 rounds of 7.62 mm.
