BMD-4

The BMD-4 is an updated BMD-3 airborne combat vehicle, adopted in 2005. Its main difference is the Bakhcha-U fighting compartment, a standardised combat module for lightly armoured vehicles. It was manufactured by Volgograd Machine-Building Company VgTZ, part of the Tractor Plants concern alongside Kurganmashzavod.

The vehicle used a six-cylinder multifuel 2V-06-2 engine with turbocharging and liquid cooling, producing 450 hp.

Crew: 2; troops carried: 5; combat weight: 12.9 tonnes; speed: 70 km/h on land and 10 km/h afloat; land range: 500 km.

Armament: a 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 9P135M launcher for 9M113 Konkurs anti-tank guided missiles, an AGS-17 Plamya automatic grenade launcher, a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, a 5.45 mm RPKS-74 and six 902V Tucha smoke grenade launchers.

Ammunition: 860 rounds of 30 mm (500 belted, 360 stowed), four anti-tank guided missiles, 551 AGS-17 rounds (290 belted, 261 stowed), 2,000 rounds of 7.62 mm and 2,325 rounds of 5.45 mm.
