The car’s story

In 2005, the fifth generation of the popular BMW 3-Series replaced the E46 sedan. The E90 platform, updated styling and wide range of available engines made the car a huge success with buyers. Compared with its predecessor, the E90 was 80 mm longer and 30 mm wider.

Other carmakers invariably took the characteristics of the 2005 BMW 3-Series into account when developing their midsize sedans. More than 1.3 million BMW 3-Series sedans were produced between 2005 and 2009.

Innovations introduced by the engineers included push-button engine starting, a new generation of DSC dynamic stability control, ACC active cruise control that takes traffic conditions into account, and the iDrive vehicle control system.
