The car’s story
The BMW Z4 replaced the Z3 and debuted in Paris in 2002. Danish designer Anders Warming styled the first-generation E85. The rear-wheel-drive two-seat roadster was built only in Spartanburg, USA.
The last first-generation car left the line on 27 August 2008.
Engines were a three-litre with 225 hp or a 2.5-litre with 184 hp. The lightweight roadster came only with a multilayer fabric roof, folding electrically only when the car was fully stationary.
