The car’s story
At its debut, the luxurious BMW Z8 became the company’s most powerful convertible. It was largely hand-assembled. Top speed was limited to 250 km/h, but tests showed that the Z8 was faster than the M5 despite sharing its engine. Acceleration to 100 km/h took no more than 4.7 seconds.
The Z8’s engine sits behind the front axle, providing a 50:50 weight distribution. It delivers 85% of maximum torque at just 1,500 rpm and 500 Nm at 3,800 rpm. Power rises as follows: 136 PS at 2,000 rpm, 204 PS at 3,000, 286 PS at 4,000 and 400 PS at 6,000 rpm.
