The BTR-60PB armoured personnel carrier has 9–11 mm armour on the hull front, 7–9 mm on the sides and 7 mm on the rear and turret. It was adopted by an order of the USSR Ministry of Defence dated 29 June 1964. Series production took place at the Gorky Automobile Plant from 1965 to 1976.

The BTR-60PB used two six-cylinder carburetted GAZ-49 engines with liquid cooling. Their combined output was 180 hp (2 × 90 hp) at 3,600 rpm, with a total displacement of 6,960 cc (2 × 3,480 cc).

Crew: 2; troops carried: 8; combat weight: 10.3 tonnes. Maximum speed: 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h afloat. Land range: 500 km; endurance afloat: 12 hours.

Main armament: a 14.5 mm KPVT machine gun and a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun. Ammunition: 500 rounds of 14.5 mm and 2,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
