The car’s story
The 1937 Cord 812 Convertible Phaeton was one of the most innovative cars of its time, with front-wheel drive, retractable headlights and a powerful engine. The supercharged 812 is recognisable by the chrome pipes along the sides of its bonnet.
According to Cord’s official records, around six hundred convertible sedans were built, but only 196 were supercharged.
The roadster used a V8 engine. A Schwitzer-Cummins supercharger increased output from the standard 125 hp first to 170 hp and later to 190 hp. Acceleration to 100 km/h took just 13 seconds, and top speed was 170 km/h.
