The car’s story
The Ford GT 40 sports car is the prototype of the GT that entered production in 2004. Unveiled at the 2002 Detroit Motor Show, it was inspired by the legendary GT 40 that beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the mid-1960s.
The chassis uses an aluminium and magnesium cage protecting the cabin and a relatively small 66-litre fuel tank. Its aluminium 48-valve V8, displacing 5,409 cc, is mounted longitudinally amidships. It produces 507 PS at 6,000 rpm and 678 Nm at 4,500 rpm. Top speed is 328 km/h, with 0–100 km/h taking no more than 3.9 seconds.
The only electronic aid is ABS, which works with Brembo disc brakes to keep the car under control. The Ford GT had BBS wheels measuring 18 inches at the front and 19 at the rear. Its rear tyre size, 315/40 ZR19, was also unusual.
