The car’s story
The Shelby GT 350 is one of the most highly tuned versions of the production Ford Mustang Fastback. The first car appeared in 1965 thanks to Carroll Shelby, whom Ford vice-president Lee Iacocca put in charge of the Mustang racing programme. The Shelby stood out through its revised rear end, small front air intakes, continuous headlight-and-grille line and cobra emblem. Its interior had richer trim and better materials than the base versions.
Changes to the standard engine raised output from 250 to 290 hp at 4,800 rpm. It remained a steel-cast 5,750 cc petrol V8 with twin two-barrel carburettors. Maximum torque was 522 Nm at 3,200 rpm. Top speed was 200 km/h and 0–100 km/h took 6.3 seconds.
