The car’s story
In 1950 Poland and the USSR signed an agreement for licensed production of the GAZ-M20 Pobeda. Named Warszawa M20, the car was assembled at FSO. The first example, built from Soviet parts, left the line in 1951; from 1952 it received the new S20 engine.
Polish factories began making components in 1954. Output was around 4,000 cars a year. The FSO Warszawa M-20 received its first update in 1957, with a redesigned grille and changes to more than 200 components and assemblies. It became unofficially known as the Warszawa 201.
