The car’s story
The main visual difference between the GAZ-11-73 and its predecessor, the GAZ-M1, was a revised radiator grille. Wide running boards allowed a short, breezy ride without entering the cabin. With no boot, the spare wheel was mounted on a special rear bracket.
Its 7.00-16 tyres provided confident progress on dry dirt roads, paved city streets and military off-road terrain.
Assembly left small gaps between the body and wings. Special seals were fitted along these joints to improve sealing and sound insulation. Vent windows in the front doors supplemented cabin ventilation.
