The car’s story
Development of the GAZ-13 Chaika began in 1956. Its appearance was strongly influenced by American automotive styling. It was fitted with a 5.5-litre V-engine producing 195 hp.
The name Chaika, meaning “seagull”, given to the GAZ 13 (M-13), was symbolic, as the car was intended for officials and senior executives. Since the Gorky plant already produced Volgas, the Chaikas were to soar above them. The GAZ-13 remained in production until 1981, with 3,179 cars built in total from 1959.
