The car’s story
The GAZ-21I Volga scale model generated the greatest excitement in the Auto Legends of the USSR magazine series. That is hardly surprising: this is a legendary car. No more than 200,000 Volgas of the 21I version were produced.
Many prominent Soviet figures had a GAZ-21I Volga in their garages. One was presented to the first cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin. Weighing almost one and a half tonnes, the car reached 130 km/h with a 2.445-litre engine producing 70 hp.
The scale model released in the Russian series lacks a detailed underside, unlike the GAZ-21I Volga in the Ukrainian magazine series.
