The car’s story
Three Poplars on Plyushchikha appeared on Soviet screens in 1967, based on Alexander Borshchagovsky's story Three Poplars on Shabolovka. Tatyana Mikhailovna Lioznova directed it. Its central characters are the simple-hearted Russian woman Nyura, played by Tatyana Doronina, and taxi driver Sasha, played by Oleg Yefremov.
Their meeting changes both lives, and they realise they must not lose each other again.
The GAZ-21 Volga taxi Alexander drives around Moscow actually belongs to Mosfilm. With different number plates, viewers can see the same car in Leonid Gaidai's The Diamond Arm and Eldar Ryazanov's Beware of the Car. It is kept in the Mosfilm museum.
