GAZ-23B Volga from Dead Season 1968

The two-part detective film Dead Season was made in 1968. It tells the story of Soviet intelligence officers who expose the activities of a Western institute headed by Hass, a sadistic doctor and former war criminal. Its research concerns a new weapon capable of destroying the human psyche. Genuine GAZ-23B cars were used in filming.

Visually, the GAZ-23B was hard to distinguish from a standard GAZ-21. The changes concerned the engine and gearbox. The V8’s two exhaust pipes merged into one beneath the floor. The interior was more richly finished, sometimes even with leather seats. Extra sound insulation and additional interior lights were fitted, along with an external searchlight and other special equipment.
