GAZ-3110 Volga taxi

The Gorky Automobile Plant produced the GAZ-3110 saloon from 1996 to 2005. The version used by private taxi drivers and fleets differed from ordinary cars in its practical vinyl seat upholstery, a green lamp below the windscreen and, of course, a chequered taxi sign on the roof.

Its advantages were a spacious cabin, large boot and low price. However, almost all drivers complained of frequent breakdowns and body corrosion.

The car received a minor update in 1997, but retained the 100 hp ZMZ-402.6 engine whose origins dated to 1958. The engines were later updated too, although their efficiency, fuel economy and longevity remained disappointing.
