The car’s story
In 1941, GAZ designers proposed a simplified utility body on the Model 61 chassis. The GAZ-61-417 had no separate cab but could tow loads of up to 750 kg. Several dozen were assembled within a year. Production stopped in 1942 because sheet metal was no longer being supplied.
The vehicle was intended for mobile anti-tank batteries and could tow 57 mm anti-tank guns.
Its simple design had already been tested on the base model. The fuel tank sat beneath the front seats, with shells stored under the seats of the six-man gun crew.
