GAZ-M22B Volga from Kidnapping, Caucasian Style

In the film Kidnapping, Caucasian Style, or Shurik’s New Adventures, a drunken Shurik is put into an ambulance with registration 84-95 КБВ. The real ambulance was divided into two sections by a glass partition. The rear contained two seats for medical staff, a folding table and a reclining space for the patient.

Special duralumin stretchers were designed for the ambulance estate. Two separate front seats replaced the bench. External fittings included a driver-side searchlight and an identification lamp with a red cross on the roof.

Compared with its predecessor in medical service, the GAZ-12B, the Volga was faster and more manoeuvrable, with better staff comfort and the same capacity. The spare wheel and tools were kept in a special recess behind the left rear door. From 1965 the improved GAZ-22D ambulance was produced, recognisable by long longitudinal pressings in its roof.
