The car’s story

In 1971 Mercedes-Benz introduced the fourth generation of the SL range, with R107 roadster and C107 coupé bodies. Initially, it used 3.5- and 4.5-litre M116-series V8 engines (350SL and 450SL) with Bosch D-Jetronik injection.

The engine produced 200 hp, taking the SL-Class from rest to 100 km/h in 9 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210 km/h.

Muscular and fresh in design, the car successfully conquered the American market and remained in production for 18 years. A total of 237,287 were built. The full name of the 1:43 model shown is Mercedes-Benz 350 SL Convertible Hard Top. As befits a roadster, it was a two-seater; this version had a removable hardtop, although folding fabric-roof versions also existed.
