The car’s story
The Mercedes-Benz S500 W221 went on sale in 2005, almost immediately after its Frankfurt Motor Show premiere. This fifth generation of the marque's executive saloons remained on the market until 2013, receiving a modest facelift along the way. It came with air suspension, LED rear lights and numerous safety systems. These included lane and blind-spot monitoring, intelligent headlights, road-sign recognition and a driver-fatigue warning system.
The S500 was the saloon version powered by a 388 hp V8. Its top speed was limited to 250 km/h, and acceleration to 100 km/h took 5.4 seconds. Average fuel consumption was around 11.7 litres per 100 km.
