The car’s story
In the early 1960s, the four-door Moskvich-403 saloon was one of the most popular cars in the USSR. It was a transitional model between the M-407 and M-408, produced for two and a half years, from December 1962 to 1965. A total of 133,523 cars were built.
The main differences between the Moskvich-403 and the 407 were a new front suspension, self-adjusting brake cylinders, and substantially revised steering column and steering wheel. The engines differed only in the position of the coarse oil filter housing on the cylinder block.
