The car’s story
The enclosed SMZ-S3D mobility car was produced for more than 25 years from 1970, with 223,051 built in total. Its single-cylinder, two-stroke IZH-P3 carburettor engine displaced 346 cc and produced 14 hp at 4,000–4,600 rpm, giving a top speed of 55 km/h. It was rather noisy and thirsty, consuming 5.5 litres per 100 km.
An SMZ-S3E variant was also made, allowing operation with one hand and one foot. The last vehicle left the Serpukhov Automobile Plant assembly line in 1997. It was replaced by the VAZ Oka.
