VAZ-2104 Zhiguli USSR Auto Legends

Many Soviet drivers considered the five-door VAZ-2104 estate an ideal private car. Series production began only in July 1984, although development had started in 1978, two years before the launch of the base VAZ-2105 saloon.

VAZ assembled it until 2003, while production was also established at IzhMash-Avto, where it continued until 2009. A total of 867,510 VAZ-2104s were built.

There was nothing fundamentally new in its design: the body and mechanical units came from the 2105, while the rear section and assembly methods came from the 2102. Changes included a standard rear wiper, heated rear window and gas struts, previously tried on the Niva, replacing torsion bars to lift the tailgate.
