The car’s story
The VAZ-2121 Niva was a unique vehicle combining passenger-car comfort with off-road ability. It was intended primarily for rural residents. The first batch was made in 1976, and full-scale production began in 1977. At least 1,850,000 Niva off-road vehicles had been built by 1994.
The Niva used a carburetted, four-stroke straight-four engine of 1.578 litres producing 80 hp. The VAZ-2121 had a top speed of 130 km/h and fuel consumption of around 10 litres.
