Volga GAZ-21 Police 1959

Blue police cars with a red body stripe could be seen on Soviet city streets from 1948. The GAZ-21 Volga was no exception. This scale model represents a 1959 police car.

The traffic police used this colour scheme until 1962. Later, until a standard police-vehicle paint scheme was introduced in 1968, Volgas were painted turquoise with a red stripe.

Interestingly, special vehicles supplied to state enterprises, ministries, agencies, taxi fleets, ambulance services and the police cost about one-third of the retail price charged to Soviet citizens.
