Volga GAZ-M21 Taxi

The export taxi version was designated GAZ-21TS. Grey, beige and even black predominated in the colour range, as on the model shown here. The chequered markings, usually white, had no fixed position on the body and were applied to the bonnet and front doors. They were most likely fitted by the taxi depots themselves.

A taximeter was installed in the Volga in place of the radio.

The car remained in taxi service in Western European countries until the mid-1970s. Surprisingly, a large batch of cars was even shipped to Colombia in 1966.
