The car’s story
The ZAZ 968A Zaporozhets was produced at the Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant from 1973 to 1980. It was an unusual car: the engine was at the rear, while the very small luggage compartment was at the front. Even so, the ZAZ 968A had two rows of seats, allowing four adults to fit comfortably in this two-door car. It could also be adapted for people with limited mobility.
The engine layout and the resulting protruding side air intakes earned the Zaporozhets 968A the nickname “big-eared”. Its air-cooled V4 engine had a displacement of 1.197 litres and produced 41 hp, giving the car a top speed of 118 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 38 seconds.
