The car’s story
In 1978 the ZIL-114 was replaced by the limousine designated ZIL-115. Developed during worsening Soviet-US relations, it incorporated special protection: a windscreen screen and special laminated side and rear glass.
Body surfaces, including roof and bonnet, were levelled with a tin-like compound rather than filler to protect against high radiation levels. Additional armour could be fitted inside doors and wings.
Commercial sales and private ownership were never planned. Documentation remained classified until the early 1990s. Cars exceeding 100,000 kilometres were immediately destroyed.
