The car’s story
The luxury ZIL-117 saloon had distinctive details. Yellow fog lights were standard. Its long rear overhang created a huge boot, seldom used for luggage and usually occupied by special equipment.
Telescopic hydraulic dampers were used in both the independent front wishbone suspension and the rear suspension with two longitudinal semi-elliptic leaf springs and torque rods. Disc brakes had automatic clearance adjustment and two independent hydraulic circuits, each operating all wheels. The system used one vacuum and two hydraulic-vacuum boosters.
