The car’s story
The first ZIM-12 cars appeared in 1950. They went on open sale, and any Soviet citizen could buy one for 40,000 roubles, compared with 9,000 for a Moskvich 401. In 1957 the ZIM-12, named after the Molotov Plant, was renamed GAZ-12.
Series production continued until 1959, with 21,527 cars built over nine years. The car had a 3.48-litre, four-stroke straight-six engine producing 90 hp. It accelerated to 100 km/h in 37 seconds and had a top speed of 120 km/h.
