Detail Cars was created by the Italian company C.D.C., which has now ceased operating. Its scale models can still be found for sale, although fewer circulate each year.
The first Detail Cars model appeared in 1992. The brand lived up to its name with fine detail and excellent quality despite production being mainly in China. Its models readily competed with collectors' favourites Vitesse, Minichamps and Schuco. Under a bilateral agreement, some carried the Corgi logo and others Revell.
For unclear reasons unrelated to quality, however, sales success was insufficient. C.D.C. stopped making cars and moved into high-quality CDC Armour aircraft in 1:144 and 1:48, selling its car-model moulds to Solido.
Financial problems again disrupted the Milanese company. In the early 21st century it sold the aircraft business to Franklin Mint, well known among model-car collectors. Franklin Mint also reduced aircraft production and now works only on individual orders.
