The car’s story

Chris Bangle oversaw the design of the 2002 BMW 7-Series. The luxury saloon was unveiled at the 2001 Munich Motor Show in E65 and long-wheelbase E66 forms, introducing numerous innovations.

These included iDrive, combining controls for most vehicle systems in one interface.

For the first time, the 7-Series used a six-speed ZF hydromechanical automatic. All versions featured hydraulic DSC stability control, Dynamic Drive active anti-roll bars, ACC adaptive cruise control, a push-button electronic parking brake and other modern electronic and electromechanical equipment.
