The car’s story
The BTR-60P has 10 mm frontal hull armour, 7–9 mm side armour and 7 mm rear armour. The GAZ-49 was adopted by the Soviet Army under the designation BTR-60P by order of the USSR defence minister on 13 November 1959. Series production began at GAZ in 1960.
Engine: Two inline six-cylinder carburetted GAZ-49 engines, totalling 6,960 cc (2×3,480) and 180 PS (2×90) at 3,600 rpm.
Crew: 5; combat weight: 29.6 tonnes. Maximum speed: 80 km/h on land and 9 km/h afloat; land range: 500 km; endurance afloat: 12 hours.
Main armament: A 7.62 mm SGMB machine gun.
Ammunition: 1,250 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
