The Italian publisher Fratelli Fabbri Editori was founded in 1947 by brothers Giovanni, Dino and Ettore ‘Rino’ Fabbri. Fabbri is now part of RCS Libri, wholly owned by RCS MediaGroup.
The brothers came from a family of small traders in Forlì, starting with little beyond the love of art and culture inherited from their father, Ottavio Fabbri. After medical school, the eldest, Giovanni, joined the Val d'Ossola partisans. Following the war he decided to enter publishing, favouring medical books, and brought his brothers into the business.
Fratelli Fabbri Editori quickly succeeded with school textbooks and became a leading publisher in that field. Improved printing quality enabled it to publish major classics such as the Divine Comedy and the Bible. Public approval encouraged the brothers, and the late 1950s saw works such as ‘Masterpieces Through the Ages’ and, notably, ‘I Maestri del Colore’ (Masters of Colour).
Fabbri Editori is now part of Gruppo RCS – Rizzoli Corriere della Sera, RCS MediaGroup. It remains active in textbooks, books and magazine collections, including car series. With the spread of home video, especially DVD, it secured agreements to distribute themed and actor-focused film collections through newsstands, including the James Bond series, collections of films by Alberto Sordi and Gilberto Govi, and genre films.
