The car’s story
The Ferrari F40 supercar was created to mark the Maranello company’s 40th anniversary. It was intended to be the best car available while also being comfortable for the driver. Pininfarina designed the F40, which was based on the 288 GTO Evoluzione prototype. That prototype supplied Ferrari’s main technical developments for the production F40. The F40 became the company’s first production road car made from carbon fibre and composite materials. It was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987.
The rear-wheel-drive Ferrari F40 used a twin-turbocharged 2,936 cc V8 mounted longitudinally ahead of the rear axle. Output was 478 hp at 7,000 rpm. Top speed did not exceed 324 km/h, and acceleration to 100 km/h took just 3.6 seconds. A total of 950 examples were produced between 1987 and 1992.
