The car’s story
Despite its interesting looks, the Ferrari Mondial 8 initially enjoyed limited popularity with buyers. Unveiled at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show, it was one of the early 2+2 berlinettas with a less overtly sporting character. Pininfarina designed the coupé, while most of its mechanical components came from the 308 GTB. The car remained in production until 1993.
The Ferrari Mondial 8 had a 2,926.9 cc V8 producing 214 hp at 6,600 rpm. Its top speed therefore did not exceed 230 km/h. By 1983, 703 cars had been built with this engine. A 240 hp engine was already offered from 1982, and in 1985 a powerful 3.2-litre V8 with 255 hp was fitted.
Front-seat occupants had plenty of room in this stylish coupé, but only children could sit comfortably in the rear. Access to the rear seats was difficult too. Leather dominated the interior: the seats, door panels and dashboard were all leather-trimmed.
