The car’s story
The Mild Seven Renault F1 team contested the 2003 championship with the Renault R23. Development began in 2001 under designer Tim Densham, with technical director Mike Gascoyne acting as a consultant. The car had strong aerodynamics, evident in its results on technically demanding circuits, but its underpowered engine limited its potential at faster venues.
Fernando Alonso of Spain and Jarno Trulli of Italy drove the R23 in 2003. It debuted in Australia and used a 3.0-litre Renault RS23 V10. Its weight did not exceed 600 kg including the driver and fluids. Elf supplied the fuel, while Michelin tyres were mounted on OZ wheels.
