The car’s story
The British Land Rover Defender off-roader was introduced in 1990. The styling of the six-seat, four-wheel-drive Defender commands respect and leaves no doubt about its off-road abilities. Its construction is simple and reliable, while its appearance remains reminiscent of its ancestor, the Land Rover first presented in Amsterdam in 1948.
Two engines were available for the Defender: a 3.5-litre petrol V8 producing 182 hp and a 2.5-litre direct-injection turbodiesel producing 113 hp.
During its long production run, the vehicle served in both the military and the police, and not only in Britain. There are even armoured nine-seat versions. French police and special services (“Gendarmerie”, “Police Nationale” and the French police “C.R.S.”), as well as Italy’s “Carabinieri”, also used the Land Rover Defender.
