NAMI-1

The NAMI-1 is regarded as the first passenger car created in the USSR. Developed by the Scientific Automotive Institute, it was first shown in 1925. Series production began only in 1927, with 512 cars assembled by 1931. The chassis came from Moscow’s Spartak vehicle repair plant and the bodies from AMO.

Its simple steel tubular-frame construction was paired with a 1,160 cc air-cooled engine producing 22 hp. The NAMI-1 reached 90 km/h with average fuel consumption of 8–10 litres. The four-seat, 4×2 phaeton had fairly good off-road ability thanks to 225 mm ground clearance.
