Range Rover Sport

The Range Rover Sport answered the rapid growth of luxury crossovers in the early 2000s. Compared with the regular Range Rover, it offered richer equipment, greater comfort and smaller dimensions. It nevertheless retained better off-road capability than its rivals.

The prototype, named Stormer, was shown in 2004. The car received electronically controlled permanent four-wheel drive, a semi-monocoque body, air suspension, low-range gearing, long suspension travel and hill-descent assistance.

Diesel and petrol engines were available. One of the later petrol units was a supercharged 32-valve V8 displacing 4,999 cc, producing 510 hp at 6,000 rpm and 625 Nm at 2,500 rpm. With this engine, the 2,590 kg car reaches 225 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
