The car’s story
The Berline or Berlina body designation describes a three-box passenger body with two, four or even six side doors. It is usually simply called a saloon or sedan. The Russo-Balt C24-40 Limousine-Berline was built by the Russo-Baltic Wagon Works. Production was established in Riga, Tver and Saint Petersburg. In 1916, manufacturing facilities were located in Moscow and Taganrog.
The first car left the production line in the summer of 1909. It was based on a car from the Belgian firm Fondu. The C24-40’s chief designer was Belgian engineer Julien Potterat. Engineers Ivan Fryazinovsky and Dmitry Bondarev contributed on the Russian side.
