The car’s story
The SU-85 self-propelled gun has 45 mm armour on the hull sides, front and rear, and 20 mm on the roof and belly. Series production began in August 1943 at the Ural Heavy Machine-Building Plant, Uralmash. Around 2,329 vehicles of this version were built in total.
Engine: V-2: liquid-cooled four-stroke V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 400 PS at 1700 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 29.6 tonnes. Maximum speed: 55 km/h; range: 300 km.
Main armament: An 85 mm D-5-S85 or D-5S85A model 1943 gun.
Ammunition: 48 gun rounds.
