The car’s story
The IS-2 tank has 120 mm frontal armour, 90 mm side armour, 60 mm rear armour, 20–30 mm on the roof and belly, and 90–160 mm on the turret. Previously designated IS-122, its first examples were built in December 1943. IS stands for Iosif Stalin, while the number 2 denotes the model’s second generation. The tank was assembled at the Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant (ChKZ).
Engine: V-2-IS: liquid-cooled V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 520 PS at 2000 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 46 tonnes. Maximum speed: 37 km/h; range: 240 km.
Main armament: One 122 mm D-25T model 1943 gun; three 7.62 mm DT model 1929 machine guns; one 12.7 mm DShK model 1938 machine gun (not fitted to every tank).
Ammunition: 28 rounds of 122 mm ammunition; 300 rounds of 12.7 mm; 2,331 rounds of 7.62 mm.
