The car’s story
The IS-3 has 120 mm frontal armour, 90 mm side armour, 60 mm rear armour, 20 mm on the roof and belly and 75–230 mm on the turret. It was accepted into service in January 1945, but the first examples were ready only days before the end of the German-Soviet war. During development it was called Object 703 or Kirovets-1. Production continued until mid-1946 at the Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant, which built more than 2,300 tanks.
Engine: V-II: liquid-cooled V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 520 PS at 1800 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 46.5 tonnes. Maximum speed: 40 km/h; range: 185 km.
Main armament: A 122 mm D-25T model 1943 gun; a 12.7 mm DShK model 1938 machine gun; a 7.62 mm DTM machine gun.
Ammunition: 28 rounds of 122 mm; 250 rounds of 12.7 mm; 756 rounds of 7.62 mm.
