The car’s story
The KV-1 has 75 mm armour on the hull front and sides, 60–75 mm at the rear, 30–40 mm on the belly and roof, and 75 mm on the turret. Series production began in February 1940 at the Kirov Plant in Leningrad. Production also began in Chelyabinsk in early 1941.
Engine: V-2K: liquid-cooled four-stroke V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 500 PS at 1800 rpm.
Crew: 5; combat weight: 47.5 tonnes. Maximum speed: 34 km/h; range: 250 km.
Main armament: A 76 mm ZiS-5 model 1941 gun; four 7.62 mm DT model 1929 machine guns.
Ammunition: 114 gun rounds; 3,024 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
