The car’s story
The KV-1S has shell-resistant armour of 75 mm on the hull sides and front, 40–75 mm at the rear, 30–40 mm on the roof and belly and 82 mm on the turret. Production began in August 1942. It differed from the KV-1 in its thinner armour plates, smaller turret and tracks narrowed to 608 mm.
Engine: V-2K: liquid-cooled four-stroke V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 500 PS at 1800 rpm.
Crew: 5; combat weight: 42.5 tonnes. Maximum speed: 43 km/h; range: 200 km.
Main armament: A 76 mm ZiS-5 model 1941 gun; four 7.62 mm DT model 1929 machine guns.
Ammunition: 114 gun rounds; 3,087 rounds of 7.62 mm.
