The car’s story
Armour thickness is 80 mm on the sides, 45 mm at the rear, 15–30 mm on the roof and belly, 100 mm on the hull front and 48–200 mm on the turret. The T-55, known as Object 155, entered service on 24 May 1958. Series production began at Plant No. 183 in Nizhny Tagil, on the Uralvagonzavod site.
Engine: V-55: liquid-cooled four-stroke V12 diesel, 38880 cc; 580 PS at 2000 rpm.
Crew: 4; combat weight: 36 tonnes. Maximum speed: 50 km/h; range: 500 km.
Main armament: A 100 mm D-10T2S gun; two 7.62 mm SGMT model 1943 machine guns.
Ammunition: 43 gun rounds; 3,500 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
