The car’s story

The T-72 tank has composite shell-resistant hull armour and monolithic turret armour. It entered service on 7 August 1973 as the T-72 Ural. The first 220 production tanks left Uralvagonzavod in 1974. Its chief designer was V. N. Venediktov.

Engine: V-46-6: four-stroke, multi-fuel V12 diesel with liquid cooling and a mechanically driven centrifugal supercharger; 780 PS at 2,000 rpm.

Crew: 3; combat weight: 41.5 tonnes. Maximum speed: 60 km/h; range: 700 km.

Main armament: One 125 mm 2A46 gun; one 7.62 mm PKT machine gun; one 12.7 mm NSVT anti-aircraft machine gun; twelve 81 mm smoke-grenade launchers.

Ammunition: 44 gun rounds; 300 rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition; 2,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
